コンセプトと背景

Concepts and Background

Since the brand name is my own name, there's a sense that the concept, or rather, everything, is just myself. If you were to ask what I'm talking about, I wouldn't have much to say beyond that, but in any case, I want TAMIYA to be something that represents me.

Quietly, yet more richly. As I've also noted in my profile, this is a life theme, and also words I want to reflect in the brand.

1. Dissatisfaction with modern society

Some of you might think this is negative right from the start, but I believe it's something everyone harbors, and I feel I can't discuss the concept without talking about this.

The internet and cities are overflowing with information, and countless creations are being consumed at an incredible speed, aren't they? Truly. Also, verbalization and visualization are lauded, and those who are clear and easy to understand seem to shine. It's dazzling, and sometimes even enviable.

Living in such an environment, or constantly seeing such things, can lead one to neglect even their own sense of rightness or what they hold dear. On screen, one is always concerned with others, and there's no time left to face oneself. When that happens, even off-screen, there are times when one feels crushed by anxieties and worries whose origins are unknown. It's certainly become convenient. Even in the short time I've lived, I'm amazed by the evolution of the times. While benefiting from many advantages of the era, I still find it difficult to live. That's what I think.

2. Experience as a nurse

For five years, I worked as an emergency nurse at a city-run hospital. Five years flew by, but it was an invaluable time for me, and I experienced so many different emotions.

In the stark environment of white walls, I interacted with various individuals: those whose lives were hanging by a thread, those whose life threads had snapped, and on the other hand, those who had overcome significant hurdles and seemed likely to survive a life-threatening crisis. Of course, these interactions often involved not only patients but also their families and friends. However, there was no time to become emotionally attached; I had to attend to the next patient, and then the next. To be brutally honest, each individual's critical day was just one in a continuous stream for a nurse. The work in such conditions unconsciously exhausted me, and of course, there were many dilemmas. There were times when tears would well up for no apparent reason.

As I gained control over my work, including my emotional and mental aspects, I was able to direct my focus inward. It was then that I finally realized that everyday actions—eating, walking, reading a book, getting dressed, being moved, laughing—are incredibly precious, and I came to feel that I needed to engage more with myself and these abilities while I still could.

3. Brand Launch

Harboring the negative feelings mentioned above, and with my experience as a healthcare professional, I went through truly various emotions and, with many fortunate connections, launched the brand.

4. Favorite Japanese culture

I really like invisible aesthetics and ambiguous culture. It might even be what people say is a bad aspect of Japanese people. Nevertheless, I believe such history and culture have preserved things like bowing to show respect to others, considerate gestures and words, and the spirit of hospitality. Those are also things I unconsciously valued.

5. Quietly, yet more richly.

"Quietly" expresses the feeling that even though the world is difficult to live in, one still has to live, and wants to live. So, I want the world I create to be calm and quiet. It also incorporates the meaning of space, such as the Japanese concept of "ma" (間) and the respectful consideration for others, out of a desire to honor Japanese technology and culture.

"Yet more richly" embodies the desire to create products that can bring joy to people—those who want to wear clothes and enjoy themselves, who can feel excited wearing accessories, and who can enjoy ordinary things with a sense of exhilaration. It's about creating things that can be close to such people and those who live that way. I hope that through our items, people can experience various emotions. Including myself, of course.
